Datenbank Historischer Adressbücher

Historical address books, residents' registers, citizens' registers etc. are important sources for historians of various disciplines and, of course, for family researchers. That is why the Association for Computer Genealogy (CompGen) has set itself the goal of making as many address books as possible searchable and findable for family researchers. The comprehensive information is compiled in the Portal Address Books in GenWiki.

The Database of Historical Address Books is an essential component of this portal. Since 2003, mainly alphabetical directories of residents from address books have been recorded here by volunteers in a table structure and made available for free online searches.

A German guide to successful searches and explanations of the information the information made available via the search results can be found here: GenWiki article "Successful searches in the address book database".

Since September 2013, it has become even easier to participate in the further expansion of the address book database. With the online entry in our data entry system (DES), anyone can easily participate. You can find all the information you need on the (German) address book project page.
